ok so what do we have:
We have a Celeron processor in an HP PC with a 20gig hard disk and 64Meg ram running Windows ME for £25.00, with a V90 Modem, a Chinese power supply: can be with Keyboard and mouse and and Windows ME CD Rom, but no display.
We have a also a Packard Bell Pentium 4 with an 80 Gig hard drive and XP CD, for £140.00, with 512 Meg Memory, and Window XP Service pack 2 as an OS
We also have a Packard Bell Tower PC that has Windows98 or 95 on it, ca not remember which, look out for details.....

Yep we listened to Southern Counties Radio and discovered a new ISP ran by a woman, offering broadband connection as well as customer service, sounds great but we can not remember the name of the company, may be you can help buy e mailing chephrenrepairs at repairs@chephrenrepairs.com, ta very much....

Ok so what the blazes is this blog entry about, well you probably are wondering it is all about what speed of connection can you get via a WI-Fi connection down the pub, we have written this in a pub in the south of England, a secret location and discovered a bit about the connection the results were as follows:

Imagine there you are in Bang cock, or Vancouver, or Reykjavik in your Hotel room and you turn on your Lap top because you know the hotel has Free Wi -Fi right in all rooms!! Only to discover that although your your wi fi client software can see the Wireless Betwork even network, with the name of the Hotel, but refuses to connect, it can not find a Default Gate Way And can not find A DNS Server. There is no way on this earth that you will get on to the network and out to the World wide web unless you get both a gateway address and an ip address leased out to you from the DNS Server. so what do you do!!? Say for example you are using Odessey, that is one Wi -Fi Client program you could be using right.
So to get the answer flat...
You could do this:
With the laptop switched on and the Internal Wireless Card Switched on ( Many Laptops have a key sequence or a switch to turn this on and off ), Find Odessey and disable it.
Go Start Run services.msi
press return. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, find the Wireless Zero Configuration Service, both start it and make it so it starts automatically.
Now go start control panel Network Connection, find the Wireless Network, right click to find the properties, there is a wireless network tab and a check box to use windows to configure the wireless net work, check that box apply the settings and damn well force the Window utility to look for and connect to the Network with the name of your Hotel.
Then bingo you have an ip address for the DNS Server the Gate way and your own ip address, and you are away into the blistering sun, but this time connected to the world!
